Your main duties and areas of responsibility

The project involves research and development of a vestibular-inspired neuromorphic microchip (VEST-CHIP) designed for real-time, ultra-low-power bilateral sensor processing to enable continuous monitoring in wearable — and potentially implantable — systems. It targets pioneering an architecture optimized for bilateral sensor processing. By fusing multiple data streams, VEST-CHIP aims to improve health tracking accuracy and unlock capabilities such as closed-loop interventions for health, with extensions to robotic control. The core technical deliverable is a working prototype chip validated for bilateral gait and balance monitoring under controlled lab conditions and early proof-of-concept scenarios for wearable rehabilitation.

The research is co-developed with clinical and municipal partners (OsloMet Health Faculty, Sunnaas Rehabilitation Cluster, Oslo Municipality Physiotherapy) to define specifications and validation protocols, while industrial and academic partners in architecture and IC design support implementation. The candidate leads architecture, system integration, and coordination, leveraging OsloMet ADEPT Research Group's cross-faculty health and technology research environment and strengthening intelligent health collaborations. Societal impact aligns with UN sustainable development goals in good health and well-being as well as sustainable cities and communities.

As a PhD Fellow at OsloMet, you have the opportunity to apply for funding for extended research stays abroad.
