Research is built one conversation at a time.
Some of the most meaningful research doesn't happen in laboratories—it happens through listening, observation and building relationships over time.
We're delighted to spotlight naomi ellinor kvalstad-lurås, a Master's student in Social Anthropology at #ncimember University of Bergen (UiB), who has been conducting six months of ethnographic fieldwork in Hyderabad through the collaboration between Nordic Centre in India and the #ncipartner University of Hyderabad.
Naomi's research explores women’s everyday lives, community and cultural expression in Hyderabad, using traditional Qawwali as a lens to understand these experiences.
Alongside her thesis, Naomi is also creating an ethnographic documentary and approaches her work with a strong commitment to collaborative and ethical research.
One line from her published ethnopoetry beautifully captures the everyday reality of fieldwork: "My hands wear pencil smudges, yellow curry caught beneath my nails."
At Nordic Centre in India, we're proud to facilitate international academic partnerships that create opportunities for immersive research, mutual learning and enduring collaboration between India and our Nordic member universities.
We wish dear Naomi all the very best!
