Internship Opportunity

The Nordic Centre in India (NCI) is a consortium of leading universities and research institutions in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It was established in 2001 with the objective to facilitate cooperation in research and higher education between the Nordic countries and India. NCI’s main objectives are to promote collaboration in research and higher education between its Nordic members and India, and one of the ways which we do so is through specially designed summer programmes for our member university students in premier Indian universities.

Primary purpose of the internship:
The internship opportunity is primarily to support NCI in its summer programmes. It aims to provide the intern with exposure to hands on experience on the working of an international collaboration specifically in terms of summer programmes.

In 2017 NCI will be running three summer programmes:

Contemporary India: An Interdisciplinary Introduction Course (2nd to 29th July 2017)

University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad

Approaching the Environment in India: Issues and Methods in the Study of the Nature-Economy-Society Interface (25th June to 22nd July 2017)

Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore

Human Rights in India: An Introduction (9th July to 5th August 2017)

National Law School of India University, Bangalore

Key Responsibilities:
The description of key responsibilities is described as below:

Act as liaison between students and Indian partner.

Provide weekly reports based on weekly feedback from students (feedback structure already developed).

Report to programme manager about possible conflicts and occurring problems by gauging student and Indian partner attitudes.

Constantly assess the programme by participating in the classroom activities, field trips, etc.

Post photos and videos on FB of interesting activities, lectures by high profile resource persons, fieldtrips, recreational activities, etc.

Provide assistance to students and Indian partner in cases of health emergencies.

Provide support to partner institution when required.

Collect information about student's health insurance and visa.

Collect reading material provided to students, assignment details, reading lists etc. as provided during the course and accordingly put it up on the closed FB page

Moderate the FB closed groups for the programmes

The intern will work in close cooperation and under the supervision of the programme manager of NCI.

Time period: 15th June to 10th August, 2017

Requirements for applying:

Must be registered as a student with an NCI member university

Minimum 3 years of university education (education in the humanities and social sciences would be preferred)

Experience in terms of travelling abroad (preferably developing country) for a study abroad programme, internship and/or fieldwork

English speaking proficiency

Motivation letter

Letter of recommendation

What NCI will provide:
NCI will provide for the intern's travel to and from India and local official travel. The intern will be provided housing in either the NCI residence at Delhi or at a university partner guest house. The intern will be provided with a work station at the NCI Delhi residence. The intern will be assisted in applying for the visa to India in terms of providing the necessary paperwork. The intern is expected to be insured for the duration of her stay.

NCI will not be providing any monetary support for the internship.

On successful completion of the internship NCI will provide a certificate for the same and a recommendation letter.
